Pharma
Transporting healthcare products by air demands a rigorous logistical approach. If mishandled, the intactness
of these products can be compromised by temperature changes during transportation.
With the pharmaceutical industry moving over one trillion dollars worth of cargo every year, upholding a shipment’s
quality requires specific equipment, storage facilities, harmonized handling procedures and, above all,
strong cooperation among the cold chain partners.
Seafood
Our dedicated teams of reefer specialists are here to help 24/7 with tailored shipping solutions that will ensure your
fish and seafood arrive on time and in peak condition – whatever their destination.
With our Sortie and Stuffie containers your fish and seafood get to market quicker and are fresher upon arrival.
How it works?
Your cargo is containerised at port, direct from the fishing vessel. The catch is loaded through hatches in the top of
the Sortie/Stuffie container and immediately chilled or frozen, thereby optimising your cold/frozen supply chain.
Sortie and Stuffie containers perform the same function, but up to five reefer or Super Freeze containers can be connected
to a Sortie container. This means that the catch can also be sorted as it is discharged from the fishing vessel.
An airtight seal ensures full refrigeration between the connected containers throughout the process.
Sortie and Stuffie containers:
Increase your yields by reducing the time spent discharging (sorting)
Reduce your fishing vessel’s port expenses
Minimise cargo handling and exposure to ambient temperatures
What kinds of commodities benefit from Sortie and Stuffie Containers?
High value, ultra-low temperature frozen fish – mainly tuna – where even small changes in temperature can have a negative impact on the quality of the cargo.
Meat
Although we have dedicated a whole section on refrigerated goods, we are going to discuss the transport of meat separately as
this is a far more advanced and specialized field. Meat is the one product that is highly susceptible to a wide variety of physical,
biological and chemical hazards, because of its moisture, PH levels and high protein content.
These characteristics provide an incubator for bacteria.
Meat cannot be transported in any manner, there is only one manner to ensure that there is no contamination or bacterial growth on the product.
There are three types of meat products:
Fresh meat products
Processed meat products
Frozen meat products
Every one of these products fall in a different category of transport with different guidelines.
Fresh meat products have a very limited shelf life and therefore have to be delivered to the wholesaler or supermarket within 48 hours. Because of this, it cannot be transported over long distances and are usually transported nationally by trucks.
Frozen meat’s shelf life is much longer and can therefore be transported all over the world.
Because processed meat can either be fresh or frozen, transport conditions will be either one of the two previously mentioned transport guidelines. Processed meat first gets transported fresh by refrigerated truck from the slaughterhouse or abattoir to the meat processing manufacturer. After being processed it can either be frozen and then exported or transported over long distances, or transported freshly by refrigerated trucks over shorter distances to different outlets nationally. However, to be able to guarantee the freshness of any meat product, the transportation between producer and consumer must be as quick and effective as possible.
Although time is the most important to guaranteeing fresh produce, there are other actions that are taken to ensure safety as well.
Before transported meat should be kept at temperatures below 4 degrees.
If refrigerated trucks does not have rails to transship carcasses, all meat should be packed separately in packages and then placed in containers or crates.
Human contact with meat should be avoided as far as possible.
Fruits & Vegetables
The Transport of fruits and vegetables is a delicate process. When it comes to the export and import of fruits and vegetables,
beverages and perishable goods, Seashell Logistics is the right party for your business. Our years of experience demonstrate that
the required logistical component is our specialty.
Every year, we ship a considerable number of containers – both refrigerated and dry – filled with onions, garlic,
fruits and vegetables for both import and export. To meet our clients’ needs, we have to focus on the entire logistical
chain and take both financial and operational aspects into consideration. The international logistical transport
chain begins with the loading of the goods. This is followed by delivery to consolidated warehouses/customs warehouses,
the stuffing of containers by our selected partners, terminal activities conducted by the transporter, customs formalities
upon export, procedures on board the ship and the ship’s departure. In addition to these operational aspects, it is of the
utmost importance to take proper care of the (digital) paperwork. We conduct strict inspections of this paperwork throughout
the entire transport operation.
